Goldenrod Solidago spp.
Family: Asteraceae (Aster / Composite)
Branching: Alternate / Non-woody
Goldenrods are most conspicuous in the fall when they are in full
bloom. Their yellow flowers are small but very numerous. In
the winter the fruits are small and cottony, and look similar to Asters
(Aster flowers and fruits are bigger). Though they are non-woody
the dead stems can be fairly thick tough.
